OPM for Life!
by: Precious Felicia
Entertainment is an important part of our lives and music is one of its best example. It can remove negative vibes and spread positivity.
As a young Filipino citizen, we should appreciate most, the Filipino made songs, the O.P.M because it really has a thing that can touch someone’s heart. You’ll realize that OPM is not just only for teens or the elders, it’s for all ages!
The best OPM song for me, that really marks a lesson and made me rethink of my views in life is the "Litrato" by Callalily.
This song was released last January 12, 2018 by the band Callalily which is composed of Kean Cipriano, Aaron Ricaprente, Lemuel Belaro and Ken Tiongson. So, this song was originally dedicated to Kean Cipriano’s father who passed away last 2016, but for me, it has an another message.
A picture ( Litrato) is worth a thousand words. As you look at a photo, it can bring back memories, a happy memory or even the sad ones. It can automatically bring us to the past without asking permission that our face depicts different kinds of emotions and in that example, I can say that a simple photo is very powerful.
The song tells a story of a man who misses someone and that person is permanently gone so all can he ever do was desperately stare at the photo, say his pure emotions and silently hoping that he could bring back the time. The time when he was still there, when he could say the words that for a long time hides inside. But the truth hurts, you can never manipulate time and you cannot undo what is done. Many things has changed, he was extremely sad and he even stressed himself. Still, all he can ever do is stare at the photo and remember their memories.
Interestingly, there was a plot twist in the music video, no one has left him but sadly, the real missing is he, himself. In real life, we spend more time pleasing others, acting like we cannot do something or we always depend on them, that it is better to lose everything rather than losing them, our special someone. Remember that we cannot fully love someone if we don’t know how to love our self first. And this is my self interpretation of the song.
It was really mesmerizing that a simple OPM song can have just not one meaning but also has two, as long as we dig deeper and completely understand the thought of the song. I am hoping for more brilliant OPM songs that can touch hearts and inspire people.
